We all have habits, things that we naturally do and ways that we go about our everyday lives. Everyone is unique in the way that we enter our homes, file (or don’t file) papers, prepare dinner, take the shortcut to the coffeehouse, etc., etc.
In regards to organizing, going with the flow that you naturally take is the most direct (and easily maintainable) way to go. Now, don’t think that you won’t have to change some of your habits to get and stay organized - after all, that IS the point, right? What I mean by flow is, think about your home or office: where do you naturally put your keys, bag, coats? Put a basket or hook to contain the keys, a bench to sit on and a coat rack to hang your coat on. Do you see piles of paper that congregate in a certain area? Where do they go? Is there a reason they are there? What if you put an “inbox” and promised yourself to clean it out at the end of every day?
Think of the natural flow that you take in your space, and imagine creative ways you can improve your space to be more productive for your lifestyle. Remember perfection is not the goal here, but doing what works for you!
